Sane out for lengthy spell

Manchester City striker Leroy Sane is expected to be out for up to six months after suffering an ACL tear in the early stages of the Community Shield on Sunday.

The German international had been the subject of transfer speculation all summer, with Bayern Munich reported to be very interested in securing the striker’s signature.

City were desperate to hang on to one of their star performers as they look to secure a third league title in succession but, ironically, will now have to manage without his services for most of this season.

Sane will undergo surgery in Barcelona next week before beginning on a lengthy rehabilitation process.

Giving an update on the injury, City boss Pep Guardiola said: "I don’t know but normally these kind of injuries are six to seven months.

"Hopefully in February or March he can come back with us.

"I didn’t think he was leaving. Always I said he's our player and he didn’t tell me he wanted to leave, he played the pre-season and he played in the final.

"Unfortunately it’s incredibly bad news because in three seasons we have had three ACLs. He’s a young player, hopefully he will recover well in terms of the surgery next week.

“He is in the best hands possible. All the people here are going to try to help him in the tough moment because he will feel alone after a few months."
